First what a great game as far as competition and athleticism goes. Tight game til the end. Love it! However, what is notable is Coach Kelly's response to the loss for LSU versus USC.

Everything he said was right. LSU made a bunch of undisciplined penalties that hurt them when they could least afford it. Undisciplined play. I have preach til I am blue in the face, reducing undisciplined play. Coach Belichick ALWAYS talked about this and how it will lose you the game. Every coach knows this, yet some coaches don't coach it enough and then it bites them in the ass during the game.

However, thats a blog for a different time. What is remarkable is how Coach Kelly handled it. He knows that was a problem, he is really upset about it, knows his team beat themselves, but what does he say? I..."I need to a better job of coaching them"

He knows that it starts with the coaching staff. It would be easy to blame the players for being dumb and undisciplined. Well, thats what you get when you play like that, etc. etc. But he took accountability. He is the head coach and did what all great head coaches do...and assistants by the way, HE took accountability. ALL great coaches do this. How many times have you heard Bill Belichick say, "we just need to do a better job of coaching", "I...need to a better job of coaching", etc.

Winning starts at the top. Period. There used to be an old saying..."you coach what they give you". That may be true, but it is not an excuse for not having excellence in a program. You coach them up! Coach them to be the best they can be and all 11 guys are coached up to the best they can be, then you will have success. Coach the whole roster up to be the best they can be....you will win!

Do a better job of coaching. If Coach Kelly and Coach Belichick can do it, so can we!
